smelly and baby
SYNOPSIS #1
Smelly and Baby Book #1 Writer Kathy Irvine Copyright: Kathleen Irvine
The Smelly and Baby comic book is chaotic, darkly funny, and full of uncomfortable energy that makes their world feel dangerous yet lived in. They are the anchors in all the madness of their world, even though they both have problems that cause a lot of the problems. Influences Guy Ritchie’s England and the Sons of Anarchy bikers. Some of the characters are based on real people, and some of the action is based on real events. The story is somewhat over the top but can still be taken seriously. Ko-Pow the city that book one is set in, is the kind of place where anything can happen, and the mix of humour, corruption, and sudden violence gives the story a strong, memorable tone.

Synopsis
Comedic cartoon
This story contains adult humour. The characters are mostly British. It depicts life on the street, with a gangster’s story. Smelly and Baby are two adorable characters who are best friends. They have many adventures but often find themselves in trouble. They usually work reluctantly for Embryo Head, the local gangster kingpin, to whom they owe money. He forces them to work for him as repayment. Sadly, he often assigns them tasks their honesty and kind hearts cannot handle. As a result, they sink deeper into his debt. Frequently, they have to run and hide from him and his gang of villainous alligators.
The main characters
Smelly is a large, goofy, bear-like person. He is quite tall and hairy, covered from head to toe in brownish-gold hair, the same colour as a grizzly bear’s fur. Because of Smelly’s size and grizzly-like appearance, people who do not know him often find him intimidating; however, he is genuinely very sweet and approachable.
Baby is the team leader, but his quick temper often causes problems. Smelly is always having to protect him from getting beaten up, and Smelly hates to fight. Baby is small and hedgehog-like. He sports a spiky punk-like hairstyle.
Embryo Head is the local gangster and kingpin, running the local underworld of crime.
Ms. Blonde Alot is Embryo Head’s live-in girlfriend. She is a buxom blonde who is very naïve and sweet. She remains completely unaware of the evil and cruelty of her partner.
The Indiscreet Hitman works for Embryo Head. He is slender, with a pale, thin face, a long nose, and shoulder-length black hair. He dresses and walks with the swagger of a Wild West movie gunman. His speech is slurred because he’s a junkie. He is always trying to tell Smelly and Baby about his next hit, but they cover their ears and plead with him to stop. He has a constant nervous twitch, but his hands remain steady when he shoots.
The Suicidal Bus Driver, the local bus driver, is very depressed and continually contemplates suicide—he is someone who really shouldn’t be allowed to drive, and should not be in charge of any form of public transportation. Road rage is his only form of expression.
Juancho is the local taxi driver. He is a small Colombian man with a moustache that nearly reaches the ground, he has a deep tan and pale blue eyes. His taxi is a yellow and black bumblebee mini. Juancho knows the action going down on the street, and Smelly and Baby often turn to him for information. Juancho is also a mathematical genius.
Pine Cone Juancho’s girlfriend and best friend has slender, greenish-brown skin, she is big-breasted yet petite. She loves him dearly and waits patiently for him to marry her. Highly intuitive, her friends believe she could pursue a career as a professional clairvoyant. However, Pine Cone is too occupied with loving and caring for Juancho to consider such a career. She is also a cherished friend to Smelly and Baby.
Cannon Ball Cameron and Disaster Daniel are two brothers who idolize Smelly and Baby. Disaster Daniel is the older one. Daniel has dark hair, while Cameron has red hair. Both brothers have slightly tanned complexions. They are willing to do anything for Smelly and Baby, and they always try to involve themselves in their escapades, but they usually just get in the way.
Smelly and baby : story breakdown and brief script
Back story
Many years ago, Gerry, a buxom redhead and member of the AUZ Secret Service, was sent to the country of Ko-Pow to help the King (Jo) and Queen (Mary) improve their country’s secret service. Over time, she and Queen Mary formed a close friendship. However, some years later, a disgruntled political leader, Minister Do Go, started a revolution that overthrew the King and Queen. Gerry had to help her dear friend Queen Mary, the King, other members of the royal family, and loyal ministers escape to another country to avoid the coup led by the recently deceased, Dictator Do Go.
At the start of the revolution, Gerry contacted AUZ MI5, begging them to send James Bond. She pleaded for James Bond to help, but he was busy elsewhere. During the revolution, Gerry stayed in Ko-Pow to help the people as much as she could and started an orphanage. Dictator Do Go tolerated her and did not harm her.
Current time
Dictator Do Go has just died. However, years into the coup, his second-in-command, General Huh, attempted to overthrow him but failed, escaping to a neighbouring country, where he found refuge. General Huh barely escaped with his life after trying to assassinate the dictator. Dictator Do Go defended himself by blinding General Huh in one eye. Now, so many years later, with Dictator Do Go dead, General Huh has returned to Ko Pow and has taken control of the country.
Story
Smelly and Baby have entered the tropical country of Ko-Pow. They are going undercover, disguised as reporters, because the world's press has descended on Pho Peh, the capital of Ko-Pow, following the death of Dictator Do Go. Ko-Pow, ravaged by a civil war that lasted several years, is still recovering. After the civil war ended, Dictator Do Go remained in power. The world’s press arrived in large numbers for the funeral and to cover events as General Huh has returned and is now in power. He allowed the royal family to return and reinstated them; however, they are just used as puppets to fool the people. The people of Ko-Pow do not want General Huh; they only remember him as a symbol of oppression and expect nothing different. Dictator Do Go’s death, and the return of his former ousted general have sparked new unease.
This was not the best time to enter the country, but Embryo Head, their boss, had insisted. Smelly and Baby were sent to Pho Peh to rescue Manny, a brilliant pianist who was gigging there. Embryo Head is a big fan of Manny’s and overlooks most of his faults because when Manny plays piano, he can soften even the hardest of hearts. However, EH (Embryo Head) booked that gig, and Manny was there for about a year, then disappeared suddenly without paying his commission. He left the venue without any notice; one day, he just didn’t show up.
Rescuing Manny will be tough because he's an alcoholic, schizophrenic junkie— a wild and unpredictable man who prefers the cheap booze and drugs readily available in Ko-Pow, and from what they understand, Manny will not want to be rescued.
Smelly and Baby are on a plane full of reporters from around the world. They look down at the tropical and exotic scene below them, which is a fabulous expanse of palm trees and rice paddy fields for miles. They land, and we see them going through airport security with their fake reporter IDs. They catch a lift in a minibus with some of the reporters they met on the plane.
They enter the city of Ko-Pow and set off along Bar Street to find Manny. They visit many bars and show Manny’s picture, saying they are friends trying to bring him home. Wherever they go, he is recognized and seems to be very popular in the small city of Pho Peh. However, no one knows exactly where he is, just that he is nearby. Keep checking the bars on Bar Street; someone will know. They are sorry to hear that he is leaving. Everybody loves Manny.
Eventually, Smelly and Baby arrive at a bar where soldiers in uniform slow dance lovingly with their rifles, holding them close to their chests. It seems that news travels fast on Bar Street because just as they are about to enter the bar, the soldiers wave them on and, in a friendly manner, say that Manny is in the bar next door.
They enter the bar next door. The bar is owned by two men, a gay couple who used to live in a major city like New York, but they returned to their hometown and opened a trendy bar. The bar was stylish and tropical (Asian tropical), beautifully kept with traditional furniture, but there is no floor, just the ground (earth). The bar serves beer and spirits, local snacks, and pizza. The bar is extremely popular, undoubtedly the best spot on Bar Street, lively and packed with affluent locals and expats. There were reporters, backpackers, Red Cross and UN personnel, some police men in uniform, as well as a local aristocrat, Prince Zepe, accompanied by his bodyguard, a Caucasian mercenary type. Smelly and Baby immediately spot Manny. He's very drunk and high, sitting with Prince Zepe and his bodyguard, gesturing wildly as he regales them with his adventures on the road. Manny is of medium height, a chubby Caucasian male with thick, dark, almost shoulder-length hair. His tummy and face are swollen with over-indulgence.
Baby Just as everyone said. As mad as a hatter.
Smelly Great!
Smelly and Baby approach his table, and Manny looks at them.
Smelly Are you Manny!
Manny Sure I am. C’mon take a load off, sit with us. You look thirsty,
Prince Zepe here will buy you a drink.
Prince Yes sit with us. I put you on my tab. You should try the pizza, it’s really
good.
Manny Yeah, they put fresh herbs on it. Make sure you add the herbs, ask for double portions
All around them, everyone is ravenously eating pizza, drinking beer, laughing, and having a wild time. Smelly and Baby accept the offer; they have never heard of fresh herbs on pizza, but decide to try it.
Baby Yeah, we’ll try that. Never heard of fresh herbs on pizza though. Hey but What happened to the floor? HaHa, there is no floor, just the earth!
Prince Traditional bar. Just how it used to be.
The barman comes to take the order.
Prince Yes, put everything on my tab.
Smelly Embry sent us to get you, bring you home
Manny (exclaims) Oh man, he didn’t have to do that!
Smelly He worries about you. So you should just come with us.
Baby Peacefully. We don’t want any trouble
At this time, a Caucasian male dressed in archbishop robes sitting at another table, hails Manny. In front of him, is a half-eaten pizza, and he holds a mug of beer. He drunkenly raises his beer mug in salute and, with the other hand, makes the sign of the cross. Manny returns the gesture.
Smelly Who the heck is that!
Manny My confessor and almost friend
Baby Why is he dressed like an archbishop?
Prince Because he is an archbishop
Smelly That’s strange! What’s he doing here?
Prince (raising a hand), Don’t ask. Don’t ever ask anybody why they are here!
The pizza and beer arrive. Smelly and Baby realize how hungry they are and tuck in. Soon they find that they are eating and drinking more and more and laughing at everything Manny says.
Baby Is the fresh herbs on the pizza what I think it is?
Smelly I think so! Tuck in!
Suddenly gun fire rips through the bar and everyone hits the floor, Smelly and Baby are face down in the dirt. The gunfire doubles, and they can hear that people in the bar are shooting back. Eventually, the gunfire stops, and everyone begins to stand up slowly, looking around at each other. A couple of police officers in uniform are slumped dead on the floor, and others are escaping through the back.
The guests immediately return to eating and drinking, speaking loudly and laughing with even greater enthusiasm.
S and B What the heck was that!?
Pepe That was the police narcotics department shooting at the traffic police who were here in the bar with us. The traffic police ripped off the narcotics police; they stole money from the sales of the drugs.
Manny (jovially), Welcome to Ko-Pow!
Events as they occur.
Manny goes to the toilet. Smelly and Baby eventually realize that he’s not coming back. They run out of the bar just in time to see Manny escaping on the back of a motor bike.
More about Manny
When Manny first arrived in Ko-Pow, he was often robbed at gunpoint. He was an easy prey, as he was usually very drunk, and high on many substances. As time progressed and Manny became a familiar and popular figure, those who had once robbed him became his friends and looked after him. They apologize for robbing him, gave him a home, and even gave him a girlfriend. Manny is Australian.
Smelly and Baby get to know Ko-Pow and the people as they search for Manny. It is an interesting place, for instance the food is quite different, often alive and attempting to sting, bite back, or just escape.
While searching for Manny, they encounter a shooting range located right by the airport. The customers are mainly expats and wealthy locals, shooting off a variety of weapons: machine guns, pistols, and even rockets. One man had bought a cow to use as a real moving target.
They have a number of strange encounters as they pursue Manny. For instance, they are held up and robbed during the day by a policeman in uniform, who held them at gunpoint with his police pistol and took their money and passports.
At one point, Smelly and Baby end up getting lost in the jungle nearby. They heard that Manny was hiding out there in a treehouse. They were told just to follow the trail. While searching for Manny in the jungle, they wander off trail and got lost because Baby needed to pee but had trouble finding the right spot. While they are searching for the right spot for Baby to pee, they are suddenly accosted by a man wearing a loincloth who emerges silently from the bushes, pointing a rifle at them. He then proceeds to rob them. They are very lost and frightened, but the gunman frog-marches them back to the main trail. They give up and go back to the city and to a bar, where they meet up with some reporters from the plane.
who tells them many stories of their time in war zones. One of them is about a fellow reporter they shared accommodation with. He had bought a large, solid trunk, put all his belongings in it, and chained it so he wouldn’t get robbed, as the reporters often did. He frequently told them they were foolish for not doing the same. Eventually, they were robbed, but the thieves only took the chained trunk.
Eventually, they are introduced to the Indiscreet Hit Man as someone who most likely knew where to find Manny. However, the Indiscreet Hitman said he did not know where to find Manny, as he had not seen him for some time. He will look for him and contact them tomorrow. Right now, he needs to rest because he has just assassinated someone who turned out to be more challenging to eliminate than expected.
Back story on the Indiscreet Hitman
It turns out that the Indiscreet Hitman was once Prince Zepe’s bodyguard. The wealthy in Ko-Pow hire foreign bodyguards, as the local bodyguards they hire often kidnap them and hold them for ransom. Eventually, Prince Zepe fired him because he was so stoned all the time that he had become completely unfit for the job. The Indiscreet Hitman longs to return to his homeland of Ireland, but he is now a stranded junkie, doing local hits for very little money, and sometimes just for some street drugs. Before Ko-Pow, the Indiscreet Hitman spent many years working as a mercenary in countries often embroiled in civil war. So he lived on continents with multiple warring nations. The mercenaries arrive with the purchased weapons and instruct the soldiers on how to use them.
Smelly and Baby did not believe that the IHM (Indiscreet Hitman) was unaware of Manny’s whereabouts, so they followed him. The IHM heads directly to a type of Geisha bar. Manny had found a new job, playing piano in a geisha bar owned by a local gangster who was also the head of police. Smelly and Baby, realize that they have to go undercover to get into the bar, so they disguise themselves as two geisha girls.
They sit in a queue at the back of the club with the other geisha girls, waiting to be taken to the male guests.
They manage to stay back as the geishas are taken to the guest tables, but in the end, they are forced to join the guests since they are the only geishas left.
They were both taken to the same table. The men keep trying to touch them, then one of them grabs Baby’s crotch and realizes he is a man. Baby lost his temper and hit the man, which starts a big fight. Smelly grabs Manny and drags him off the piano stool. Manny puts up a struggle, yelling help they are kidnapping me. Manny and Baby fight their way out of the geisha lounge, beating off the punters and the geisha girls who try to rescue Manny. The Indiscreet Hitman follows them yelling “where are you taking him”?
They take Manny to their hotel and tie him up. They contact Embryo Head, who arranges for a private plane to pick them up at a quiet air field. Manny has lost his passport, and the robbing police man took theirs. There is only two ways to leave the country: run or pay off immigration to get out.
They arrive at the airfield, where the plane is waiting for them, but the local police get wind of the escape and chase them. Manny is now running with them, he is still tied up, his legs are free but his arms are bound to his body, and Smelly has the other end of the rope. They realize that the Indiscreet Hit Man is also trying to catch up; he is coming with them. Manny is trying to look back, yelling encouragement to the Indiscreet Hitman to catch up.
They board the plane just in time with Manny and IHM, and the plane takes off. They are leaving for England.
Also, in this story, Smelly and Baby get caught in a riot stampede. They hire a motor bike taxi and are on it with the driver. Soldiers start to shoot at the rioters and the rioters stampede in every direction, suddenly they are surrounded by stampeding rioters and soldiers shooting. But the motor-dop's motor bike is his only income, and he has a family. So, they and the motor-dop end up carrying the bike, because the crowd is so thick they could not ride it. They protected it with their bodies from stampeding rioters and bullets.
